Trivia Night at the Oxford: Results.
Since I'm too tired to type today, I'll just say this.
We started as awesomeness, and ended as average.
ie. Ryno had too much to drink.
However, I can't say we did too bad, a bar tab of $40 as well as 2 jugs o beer and food was also acquired in the the first round, while we were still awesome.
On another topic, I have reacquanted myself with muse, andif you don't know them, well here's a short review.
Meet a band inspired by the two best bands of the last decade (Nirvana and Radiohead). A band - average age 20 - with eighty songs and four record deals around the world. A band who've spent the 90's cut off and disenfranchised. A band who won't be happy until they've ripped the heart from your chest and shattered your eardrums. Meet MUSE. From England. But not so you'd notice.
The rock trio consists of guitarist/vocalist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenhome and drummer Dominic Howard. The group's emotive sound and live dates drew critical acclaim and industry buzz, and after a trip to New York's CMJ festival, Muse signed a deal with Maverick Records. Their debut full-length album Showbiz was released toward the end of 1999. Two years later, Muse issued The Origin of Symmetry and had a major hit with Hyper Music. In 2002, fans were treated to the double-disc live set Hullabaloo. Their latest album Absolution is clearly the product of three mid twenties musicians at the height of their powers, determined to push their aesthetic all the way.

a question: have you ever seen muse LIVE??
I would've gone last year but had no money after Franz :( - but from friends that went it sounded like one heck of a great concert. Ah well.
Now, a few recommendations - great if you already listen to these people:
For incredible vocals - Jeff Buckley
For great guitar work - QOTSA
For poetics - Augie March (Strange Bird the better album of their two)
For the "omg he's so young and so talented" factor - Bright Eyes (new album 'I'm wide awake, it's morning' is BRILLIANT)
For impossible to obtain but wow-it's-great music - Rilo Kiley (not sold in Australia unfortunately but there are other ways of getting their albums..."execution of all things" is a gem)
For infinitely listenable pop-rock - The Smiths!! Absolute best band of the 80s. Hilarious lyrics, johnny marr is a wizz, just great! the boy with the thorn in his side, behind the hatred there lies a murderous desire...for loooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooove.
For great music shunned because of its popularity - Pearl Jam. So many great albums, so many great tracks. Everyone should at least own "vs".
For nostalgia (an absolute must if you loved 'almost famous') - led zeppelin (III's my current fave, IV is the classic)

Oh, thanx for the comment. I havnt seen them live live, but I do have the hullabaloo dvd, and I agree. They are so much better live, you can really feel the energy.
